The Real Cost of Waiting

Every month you delay, the dream home
gets harder to build.

  • 01

You have no idea what's actually possible in your budget

So you either dream too big and get crushed by the first estimate, or dream too small and end up with a renovation you regret the moment it's done.

  • 02

You're terrified of hiring the wrong contractor

You've heard the horror stories. Six-month projects that turn into eighteen. Budgets that double. Change orders that never end. Quality that looks nothing like the inspiration photos.

  • 03

The vision in your head never matches reality

Something always feels off. The kitchen flows wrong. The addition looks bolted on. And now you're stuck with it for the next twenty years.

  • 04

Every month of delay pushes the vision further away

Material costs rise. Contractor schedules fill up. The family keeps outgrowing the space. And the dream you keep putting off gets quietly more expensive every single week.

The dpA Process

Three phases.
One architect. No surprises.

You don't hand your biggest investment to the first contractor who shows up. You plan it. Here's how.

01

Feasibility Study

We begin with a study of your home, site, and goals. Together, we explore layouts, massing, and design options while aligning them with realistic budgets.

02

Detailed Design + Interiors

This is where the design takes shape. We develop detailed architectural drawings while also guiding you through interior design and selections.

03

Build-Ready Documents

With design and selections finalized, we prepare the construction drawings, specifications, and permit documents needed to build.

Meet Your Architect

Hi, I'm David.

Twenty years ago, I picked up a pencil at Virginia Tech and started drawing homes. I haven't stopped since. I've designed custom builds, gutted and rebuilt century-old houses, and run an award-winning design-build firm in Chicago. Now I'm bringing everything I learned up there home to the Triangle.

I balance creativity and precision. I design homes that feel intuitive, cohesive, and timeless, not trendy, not cookie-cutter, not something you'll hate in five years.

Honest Qualification

Let's see if we're actually
a good fit.

I'd rather tell you "no" on the first call than waste three months of your time. Here's the truth about who I work with.

This is for you if...

  • You own a home in the Triangle NC area and want to remodel, add on, or build custom
  • You value great design and want a home that feels truly yours, not a copy-paste floor plan
  • You're planning a project with a realistic construction budget of $100K or more
  • You want an architect representing you, not a contractor making design decisions for you
  • You're willing to invest in a proper plan before committing to construction

This is NOT for you if...

  • You're looking for the cheapest possible design, I'm not it
  • You want to DIY your own plans and just need a stamp
  • Your project budget is under $100K and you'd rather call a handyman
  • You're committed to a specific contractor and don't want any design pushback
  • You don't care about how the finished home actually looks, flows, or ages

Common Questions

What homeowners always ask before they book.

Actually, the opposite. Hiring an architect first usually saves you money, because you avoid the three biggest budget killers in a remodel: a contractor designing on the fly, change orders during construction, and work that has to be torn out and redone. My Feasibility Design starts at $3,500 and gives you a clear scope and realistic budget before you talk to a single builder. That's not an expense. That's insurance.
Feasibility Design typically runs 2-4 weeks. Detailed Design, the full drawings and specifications, usually takes 8-16 weeks depending on the project's complexity. After that, construction timelines vary but I stay involved throughout. I'll give you a specific timeline for your project on our first call.
That's exactly what Feasibility Design is for. We look at your current home, your goals, and your budget, and then we weigh the options honestly. Sometimes the right call is a remodel. Sometimes it's an addition. Sometimes it's a full tear-down and rebuild. I'll walk you through the tradeoffs of each so you can make an informed decision before committing a dollar to construction.
I work with whichever contractor makes the most sense for your project. I have a network of trusted Triangle-area builders I can recommend, but you're free to use your own. Either way, because my drawings are detailed and precise, any competent contractor can execute them correctly, and you can get competitive bids without comparing apples to oranges.
Zero hard sell. It's 30 minutes. You tell me about your home and what you want to accomplish. I ask questions. By the end, you'll know three things: what's realistically possible for your project, a ballpark cost range, and whether I'm the right architect for you. If I'm not, I'll tell you honestly and point you somewhere better. No obligation, no pressure, no follow-up spam.
